Find out why people love YOGA

The literal meaning of ‘yoga’ is ‘to yoke’ or unite body, mind and spirit. We in the West see yoga as a time-tested approach to keeping the body in shape as the years pass – and yoga is that. However, historically, yoga has been appreciated in a much broader context: it encompasses different practices which include yoga postures (asanas). In our classes, we try to include some of the additional aspects of yoga. Breath practice (Pranayama) is primary to the process of connecting us to wholeness – it is in every class. Little gems of wisdom (Jnana Yoga), are frequently intertwined with the presentation of asanas. And, yoga as a meditation in motion is encouraged (Raja yoga).
When physical holdings (which come from long-standing areas of tension) are released, we connect more easily to our multi-dimensional being and, we experience a deeper level of our self. Through this process, calm is increased, energy is liberated, and our ability develops both to take on life’s challenges, and to accept life exactly as it shows up.
Each yoga student is encouraged to participate at their own level. Each class attempts to respond to the whatever individual students bring to the class. And, regardless of experience, age and ability, all are welcome!
